Dr Olaf Hermans and David Pinder are the co-authors of the 2024 book “Co-Leadership”.

The authors state that co-leadership is not so much about the idea that more than one leader can and must be a (co-)leader, and that there must be people who (co-)decide where to go.

Instead they describe co-leadership as the process that, at any moment and in any situation of operation, as a kind of organizational reflex, creates a parallel reality of missing thinking and bifurcated organization of missing action, which is instigated and governed by a human triangle of ownership-parenthood-craftsmanship. With all people being invited (and able!) to both operate in the “real” original organization and stream of actions, as well as in the new parallel reality and organization, until both worlds re-integrate into a new or better original organization (different outputs) and world (new outcomes and significantly better impact) than if only the original organization would have been operated.
